The Association of Friends of the Austrian National Library was founded in 1921 as a non-profit organisation. Among its founding members were such leading personalities as Dr. Ernst Benedikt (publisher of the newspaper Neue Freie Presse), the actress Hedwig Bleibtreu, Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Prof. Oswald Redlich (president of the Academy of Science).

The aim of the Association of Friends is to support intellectually and financially the Austrian National Library, i.e. by

• Helping to acquire and preserve objects of the collections;
• Advancing its research and staging of functions;
• Supporting the cause of the Library in public.

As a member of the Association of Friends you have the chance to become better acquainted with the Library and its nine valuable collections and to participate intensively in the many-faceted cultural programmes of the institution.

Membership

• entitles you to low priced admission to all areas of the museums and exhibitions of the library;
• gives you a low priced subscription to the journal "biblos. Beiträge zu Buch, Bibliothek und Schrift" (Biblos. Articles on books, library and script);
• gives you reduced costs for all publications of ANL (-15%);
• you receive invitations to exclusive special occasions for the Circle of Friends;
• you also receive regular invitations to events put on by the library (lectures, readings, concerts, etc.);
• and three times a year you receive free of charge the illustrated information publication of ANL, the ÖNB-Newsletter.
